Two million users, plans to grow
Memories of the Manchester neighbourhood he grew up in inspired Rob Billington to create Who-Remembers-Me.com.
Hosted on a Donhost dedicated server platform, this site helps people reconnect with others from their past - no matter how they originally met.
The site launched in 2003. Rob says its key strength is that it "covers areas other sites don't." These include workplaces, clubs, childrens' homes and the armed forces.
He explains that although the site was originally focused on the UK, people from the USA were registering. "That," he says, "triggered the idea to make it worldwide."
Most users are based in the UK or other English-speaking countries like Australia and New Zealand, but in total over 2 million people have registered - from 185 countries.
Dependable performance
Rob decided to switch to Donhost in 2004 after experiencing poor support from the site's previous host. "We've been with Donhost for several years," he says, "and we've always had a good relationship with the team."
Rob thinks the Donhost service has been exceptionally reliable, saying that "nothing major" has happened in the time Who-Remembers-Me.com has been hosted by the company.
In fact, the issues which have arisen have been down to the site's success: "We got to a stage where our server was overloaded," explains Rob.
Flexible service
The site was transferred to new, powerful servers to provide more capacity, and although it is not a normal part of the service, Donhost agreed to transfer the company's existing IP address to the new server too.
"They have gone out of their way for us," says Rob, praising the company's flexible approach to keeping customers happy.
The standard of service has meant Rob does not have to contact the Donhost support team frequently. "I don't speak to them very often," he says, "but when I do, they're very good. One of the things I would say is that their technical knowledge is very good."
Further growth
Who-Remembers-Me.com became a Limited Company at the start of 2007. "We've got big plans for expansion," says Rob, pointing to interest from investors and the company's 5 employees as proof that the concept has plenty more to offer.
Donhost will be there, of course, providing the stable platform on which the site can further grow. "The fact that we're still with them speaks for itself," concludes Rob.
